This pair of rice containers is made in the form of a round barrel. The surface is lacquered and gilt painted with gold and black lacquers. The theme of the painting is a peacock which is a symbol of prosperity. Near the top and close to the bottom it is painted in gold lacquer with black dots. The dots represent the head of the nails found in real leather drums. Hence this type of rice container is also called the drum shaped containers.
