This type of basket was called the woven silk-bamboo basket. The process of making a bamboo basket like this is both time-consuming and complicated. First, the bamboo has to be sliced into thin strips to thread size and then a skillful artisan will meticulously weave the strips to a desired shape. Several coatings of a clear resin will be applied to the bamboo to make it water resistant. The top lid will be painted according to the request of the customer. This type of basket was only used by very well-to-do family in the old days. It was used as food/snack basket. It could also be used as a gift basket.
