Black Lacquer Shoe Box

A small black lacquer box – made for small children to store their shoes. The construction of this shoe box relies mostly on dovetail joinery to hold all the panels together. The front panel is gilt painted with a mythical lion playing with a ribbon. This lion was done in multiple lacquer colors. The face of the lion is playful. The edges of box are decorated with grapes and vines which Buddhists use as symbols of wisdom and enlightenment.
