This red
lacquer cabinet is built in the traditional
“fengjia” (square corner) design. The side
panels and the back panels are finished with
black lacquer. The front is finished with
thick red lacquer and gilded paintings.
However, most of the paintings have been
worn off leaving only traces of darker
paints. The door panels are standard miter,
mortise, and tenon construction with
floating panels. The side panel is tenoned
into the frame which carries the mortised
joints and is furthered strengthened with a
brace on each side. The legs are
strengthened with a stretcher on the side.
The apron on the front legs is simple and
undecorated.
