Red Lacquer Twin Sideboard

This twin sideboard has an overhanging top frame which makes the sideboard look slightly tapered, thus reducing the heaviness usually associated with solid furniture. The sideboard is decorated with red and black lacquer finishes. The front was once decorated with gilt paintings but the paintings are all worn off already. The black lacquer finishes on the top and side panels create a sharp contrast with the red lacquer finishes on the front. The apron is straightforward without any decoration. There is a lower drawer on each side. The sideboard without the paintings assumes a very simple and elegant form.
