Window Screens (Pair)

The two screens form a pair with the meaning “Fuk and Lui” These two Chinese characters usually are used together and have the auspicious meanings of enjoying all the felicities of this universe. The one on the right is Fuk which means blessing and felicities, and the one on the left is Lui means fortune. These two characters are carved in the open style in the center of each panel forming the Central theme of the decorative panels. The composition includes a symmetrical three part setting with carvings of the angular thunder scrolls. Around the space of the scrolls are floral of different types, female figures, animal figures. All the carvings are done in the open style. The carvings are executed with superior skills and precision, and thus the panels are good a representation of the super carving skill of Anhui artisans.
