This round bamboo table has two halves. The top is lacquered in black. The frame is made of spotted bamboo. The lattice work on the upper section rectangulars served as stretchers diverting the weight to the legs. The floor stretchers form the shape of a hexagon. Between each pair of legs, a structure in the form of the dented U shape is used to strengthen the construction. Bamboo has always been very popular in China especially among scholars. However, since they are quite fragile, not too many pieces have survived from earlier periods.
